BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Richard is a Senior Research Scientist and former Head of Sanitation and Environmental Management Division of CSIR-Institute of Industrial Research. He specialises on Enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation for ethanol and amino acids, biogas production, waste water treatment and analysis, environmental quality analysis and management, enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation process optimisation, environmental characteristic mapping using unmanned aerial vehicles. He is a technical expert for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) in Ghana and also an expert Scientist for EU Commission. He has track record of working on international funded projects including EU FP7 and GCRF funded project RECIRCULATE: Driving eco-innovation in Africa- Capacity building for safe circular water economy and GCRF EPSRC Global Research Translation Award: ACTUATE: Accelerating the adoption of circular sanitation demonstration systems for improved health outcomes. Currently the Ghana coordinator for the project “Chicken and fish feed and organic fertilizer value chain development using black soldier fly-based urban biowaste processing in Ghana, Mali, Niger, and Congo DR, funded by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD)

 

HOBBY

Plays hockey and also Technical official of Federation of International Hockey (FIH) and have officiated in Commonwealth Game, World Leagues, Africa Cup of Nations, Nations Cups and many more.

2019-2021       Project team coordinator ACTUATE – Accelerating the adoption of circular sanitation demonstration systems for improved health outcomes. GCRF-EPSRC Global Research Translation Award

2017-22           Project team coordinator “RECIRCULATE: Driving eco-innovation in Africa: capacity-building for a safe circular water economy”. ESRG-GCRF growing research capacity to meet the challenges faced by developing countries. £6.98 million

2012-2015       Project coordinator of CSIR-IIR on EU sponsored project, Biowaste4SP Project with grant agreement number 312111 “Turning biowaste into sustainable products: development of appropriate conversion technologies applicable in developing countries”. This project was undertaken by 10 different countries including 5 from Africa; (South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Morocco and Ghana); Malaysia, Sweden, Turkey, Italy and Denmark from Asia and Europe.  3.9 million Euros

2021-2024       Currently the Ghana coordinator for the project “Chicken and fish feed and organic fertilizer value chain development using black soldier fly-based urban biowaste processing in Ghana, Mali, Niger, and Congo DR, funded by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD)
