The CSIR-Institute of Industrial Research has received accreditation after a rigorous due diligence process and training of its staff in the delivery of Curriculum Based Training (CBT) programs under the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
In pursuit of its mission to support and foster the commercialization of research findings and also to conduct or assist in the gathering, publishing, and distribution of research findings and other helpful technical information, including knowledge transfer, the Institute has successfully completed a stringent due diligence procedure that certify its staff and facilities for accreditation as a CTVET CBT Training provider for the Commissions’ Voucher Project.
The Institute is now accredited for the assessment and certification of National Proficiency Levels II and I under the National TVET Qualification Framework (NTVETQF) and currently providing training for the first cohort of forty (40) learners at the Institutes’ TVET Training Centre in the area of Consumer Electronics. By this accreditation, the Institute is recognized as one of the ninety-eight (98) Institutions providing training for over fourteen thousand (14,000) learners under the TVET Voucher Project in eleven out of the sixteen regions of the country.
The development adds up to the list of accredited facilities within the Institute which includes an ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 calibration laboratory within the Metrology Division, the Regional Testing and Knowledge Centre with an ISO laboratory for testing Cookstoves and the CSIR-IIR Training Centre which has passed for accreditation as a CTVET Training Centre.
For Management of the Institute, it is not only monumental, is it another call to bring our expertise and research outputs to the everyday Ghanaian through knowledge transfer. This will definitely be powered by research experience and industry know-how.
About the CTVET Voucher Project
The Ghana TVET Voucher Project (GTVP) is a project under Ghanaian – German Finance Cooperation Co-financed by the German Government through KfW, implemented by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
GTVP provides demand-driven training vouchers to COTVET-registered master craft persons, their apprentices and workers. The vouchers are used to fund competency based training (CBT) courses in COTVET–accredited training institutions and the assessment and certification of National Proficiency Levels II and I under the National TVET Qualification Framework (NTVETQF).
The project targets owners of small and medium enterprises of the informal sector as well as their workers and apprentices. Specifically, Master Craft Persons (MCPs), apprentices and workers. To improve the access of the target group to demand-oriented TVET, which meets quality criteria with the aim of improving the access to decent employment. Trade areas approved for GTVP financing for CBT training include but not limited to Beauty Cosmetics (Cosmetology), Consumer Electronics, Automotive repair, Building Construction (Welding), Garment tailoring and dressmaking, Plumbing Furniture making, Electrical installation, Block laying and tiling, Catering and hospitality.
