The Institute of Industrial Research (IIR) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has responded to the nationwide call to plant trees to green Ghana. The exercise was carried out by staff and management of the Institute at its premises at Otinshi, East Legon to commemorate the Green Ghana Project which was just launched.
Speaking during the planting exercise, the Director, CSIR-IIR, Dr. Francis Boateng Agyenim stated that the government’s initiative towards planting five million trees is that which should be supported by stakeholders for its medium and long term benefits. This initiative will help us now and generations yet unborn, he intimated.
He further stated that the project as implemented by government of Ghana through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and its stakeholders should be institutionalised as an annual event to help conserve the environment.
The Director thanked staff and management for participating in the exercise and admonished all to be care-takers to help nurture the trees planted in order to make the entire exercise worthwhile.
